Lioslaith Retriever Training

My
Story
A little about my journey
Lioslaith is Gaelic for Lesley, that's me. I started my journey with gundogs 12 years ago I never dreamt that it would become so much a part of me. My first gundog was Flynn a 15month old 'part trained' Labrador Retriever. A dog may be trained for one person, not necessarily transferred to another. It is a partnership between a person and the dog, a realationship built on trust and respect.
Flynn, taught me so much in the first year of having him, a true character and also the sweetest most loving boy ever. Following closely behind Flynn was Blue who arrived home with me, one day after a mornings training at 7 weeks old, he was beautiful. Mya came next, my first bitch and took me on a whole new journey of breeding, this is where the Lioslaith name started. Mya and I have had 3 litters together producing 20 pups and giving me Rossi and Maverick.
I have a passion for teaching and in the past have taught horse riding and was a 'A' graded driving instructor. I have a talent for being able to look at the full picture of you and your dog and to communicate and coach you in a way that you will understand the whys, where's and when. My aim is to help you take your journey with your dog/s.

From Novice hander we do 121 and group sessions. 121 lessons are critical to fine tune your specifics and our group sessions help proof and develop those skills.

In the Field
You may not be interested in comepting your dog but may want a partner for the peg or to join a shoot and pick up. We can help you develope the skills to do either of these or indeed both. There is nothing better than having your own dog to pick the birds your have shot and are taking home fo rdinner or to be an integral part of the team on a shoot day.

Bunty and I really enjoy the training sessions with Lesley. She is passionate about all her dogs and uses positive reinforcement methods to get the best from us both. As well as explaining how to approach the different skills she also uses questioning very carefully to guide me to the correct answers so that I work things out for myself rather than telling me what to do. This is really important to me helping me understand what is required but more importantly enabling me to remember all the commands, hand signals and drills needed to get the best from Bunty. We can’t recommend Lesley enough.
The location where we train is fabulous with lakes, woods, thicket and open terrain for us to work and an excellent cafe, when open, to reward ourselves with afterwards!

Lesley is a natural teacher and is able to share her expertise in the training of Gundogs with clarity. She is skilled at reading dog and human behaviour to truly tailor your progress to that of your ability and the dogs’. With out her patience and skill I would never have had the confidence or ability to work my hot headed dog on a shoot. This season he handled well and we had some great days out together! Thank you for your kindness and patience Lesley.

The training that I have received from Lesley, was not only fun, but structured to bring a young dog on, making strong foundations before moving on to the next level.
I have enjoyed many training sessions with Lesley at Burton Lakes. The training ground has a wonderful variety of grass and lakes with varying degrees of difficulty depending on the level you are training towards.
Lesley, is very knowledgeable and experienced in the world of gundogs. I enjoy my lessons with her, and look forward to the next one.
Can’t wait to see you and Mav very soon X
